Cast of Characters
Meet the characters of this haunting anime.
Key = Tokiko Mima
The main character of this series. She is nicknamed 'Key'. Since she has such blank expressions and awkward behavior, she and her cruel former classmates call her a robot. She's about 17, going on 18. She becomes obsessed with Miho, an idol rock star, because in order to become human, Key must make 30,000 friends. Key's solution to this is to become an idol herself.
Sakura Kuriyagawa
The only friend of Key's childhood in Mamio Valley. Accidentally she meets Key in Tokyo. They begin to live together. Unlike Key, Sakura is either laughing or crying. She becomes Key's manager, and works odd jobs to support herself, like traffic cop, video store clerk, and pizza delivery girl.
Shuichi Tataki
Tataki is pretty much Sakura's only friend in Tokyo since she moved there. He's the chairman of Utsuse Miho's fan club. He is also a 'maniac' about idols. Shuichi is a hot-blooded hero. He is thirty years old. He goes to the valley that both Key and Sakura grew up in and discovers a horrible secret.
Tomoyo Wakagi
Dr. Mima's lifelong assistant, and he's always watching Key, essentially he is Key's bodyguard. No matter what Key gets into, he is always there to rescue her. His place of birth nor personal history is unknown. With Mr. Tomoyo, it's best you didn't know him. Mystery is always better. Right?
Jinsaku Ajou
Ajou is the official president, CEO and namesake of Ajou Heavy Industries, Inc. He also runs Productions Minos, which produces Utsuse Miho's music and image. His dark side is known as the 'Dealer of Death' selling PPOR to various dark agencies and stealing gel from humans to power the PPORs.
Serugei = "D"
Serugei is in charge of the project called the Robot Weapon PPOR. It is funded and developed by Ajo Heavy Industries, Inc. His code name is D. The rest of the data on him is unknown. There also seems to be bad blood between Tomoyo and D (it's got me speculating that they were in a wartime setting together), which you can see in Ver. 4, I think.
Utsuse Miho
A rock singer that is said to be 'the last idol'. Miho has a very shady background, considering the majority of her adult life was lived in the limelight. Her true face is hidden under wraps. Her claim to fame is that she stole Key's mother's lullaby. You can see this go down in the last episode. Major tearjerker, by the way.
Murao Mima
An authority of the robot engineering, and he is the creator of 'Key'. He passes away leaving Key with a mysterious will on a tape cassette. Although he's given only 10 minutes show time (more or less), his character propels Key to find her human self.
Ouji Janome: Prince Snake Eye
The founder of a New Cult Religious Organization called Subarakikou or simply a cult in the English dub. Key performed a healing of sorts with her gel and since Prince Snake Eye needs a new reason for his followers to believe him, he sees it in Key. He takes it upon himself to ruin Key's public rep with his followers. He's kinda like a bad religion peddler, always coming up to your door and recruiting you.
